MOHENJO DARO VS RUSTOM!

One of the biggest clashes in recent times is going to happen tomorrow. Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro will try its luck at the box office as it’s put up against Akshay Kumar’s Rustom. Both films have equal plusses and minuses and although Rustom will have an upper hand due to reasonable costs, it’s difficult to predict as of now which film will emerge as the winner.

Mohenjo Daro is a period film and probably the first film in the world based on the Indus Valley Civilization. It stars Hrithik along with newcomer Pooja Hegde. Kabir Bedi is the villain. Ashutosh Gowariker, who has made some excellent period dramas like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar in the past, is at the helm. Both Hrithik and Ashutosh have come together earlier for the succesful Jodhaa Akbar and hence, there’s excitement in that regard. The film is mounted on a huge scale and has some interesting action scenes, which will be fun to watch on the big screen. Also, unlike other Gowariker films, Mohenjo Daro is just 2 hours 35 minutes long. On the flipside, the trailer received an okay response. Songs haven’t really worked big time. There seems to be too much of historical inaccuracy. Because of all these factors, the hype is limited. This can prove detrimental, especially if the response is not that great, since the film is made on huge costs.

Rustom
on the other hand is also a period film as it’s based on 50s Bombay. It is inspired from the famous Nanavati case, that led to the abolishment of jury system in India. Akshay plays the naval officer Rustom Pavri while Ileana DCruz essays his wife. Arjan Bajwa plays the wife’s lover and Esha Gupta portrays the lover’s sister. The film is a courtroom drama but there’s more to the film. As evident from the trailer, Rustom is playing a witty game and this angle will be interesting for sure. Sadly, the songs didn’t work but the super strong trailer has ensured that the film has managed to generate excitement. But since it’s not a simplistic, massy film, the hype is not very huge but it’s there. If the response is positive, Rustom can score big time at the box office.

The best part is both films are releasing on Independence Day weekend (I-Day falls on Monday Aug 15). Hence, it has 4 days to rock the show at the box office. Here’s hoping both films are immensely successful and bring cheer for everyone involved, including the viewers!
