SULTAN had a huge first day of around 36.60 crore nett as per early estimates. The film did slow in some areas through the day as Eid was delayed by a day and Ramzan was still on which meant the Muslim audience kept away. This was the case across UP, Bihar, MP, Gujarat and Maharashtra. East Punjab has seen all records fall as it has a limited Muslim audience and the circuit would have only lost 3-5% while many others are 20-30% lower than what they should be.
The film has fallen short of the All Time Record of PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO of 39 crore nett but if we take out the Ramzan factor on fair value the number is much higher and that will mean better hold on the second day as that the Muslim audience comes out today. Basically it was a holiday yesterday but the film has not got the full benefit of the holiday due to Ramzan and that will show up in the next few days as collections hold better than other films coming off a big holiday.
The film has smashed records at multiplexes with most multiplexes recording the highest daily figures they have ever seen for any film but the circuit records are very few as the single screen business is well short of films like PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO, HAPPY NEW YEAR and DHOOM 3. The single screen business has kept the figures of SULTAN lower than likes of PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO in most circuits.
------------------
SULTAN missed breaking the all time record of PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO by around 2.75 crore and the big difference was in Gujarat/Saurashtra and UP where both of these sectors were 1.50 crore nett apprx each down on PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO.
There were also gaps in Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI but these were more than compensated by South and West Bengal but that shortfall in Gujarat and UP proved too much. Gujarat, UP, Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI all behaved as Pre Eid and did not get the benefit the national holiday like a Punjab, Delhi city or Mysore.
The territorial comparisons of both films are as follows and the gaps in Mumbai and Delhi / UP are because of Gujarat/Saurashtra in Mumbai and UP in Delhi /UP.

Sultan - 11,45,00,000
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - 14,21,00,000 (ALL TIME RECORD)

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - 27,00,000
Odisha
Sultan - 50,00,000 (ALL TIME RECORD)
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo - 45,00,000
ALL INDIA
Sultan - 36,59,00,000

SULTAN managed to set three opening day all time records in East Punjab, Mysore and Odisha. PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO had set eight opening day records but two of those have now been broken by SULTAN. The 40 crore nett mark is looking a tough nut to crack though if Eid had fallen on Wednesday as expected earlier, SULTAN would have cracked it.
