Smilie Suri, who boasts of a
filmi lineage with director Mohit Suri as her brother, Emraan Hashmi as
her cousin and the Bhatts as her extended family, is ready for her
second innings in the glamour industry. She attributes her newfound
awareness, confidence and svelte form to her experience on a reality
show. She says, “It turned out to be a reality check for me. Many friends
and well wishers came forward to tell me that I needed to lose weight. I
was just happy being married, but when I took control of my body, I
realised that I had thyroid and PCOD. With that condition, no amount of
workouts would enable my weight loss. I changed my routine to
re-activate my hormones and enrolled myself for gymnastics, aerial silk
and weight training. It has been a healthy, rather than a sudden weight
loss. I was never the type to wear revealing clothes, but I am more
comfortable flaunting my curves now.“
The actress is open to doing TV, films and theatre. “My debut play Double Trouble helped me evolve as an artiste,“ she says. Though her debut film was a hit, it didn't materialise into major roles in Bollywood. She says, “My second film tanked miserably. When I ask my family about casting me, they say that they can't rope me in for any random role. I believe they won't be comfortable directing me in the genre they specialise in. Also, it would be incestuous to be paired opposite Emraan, who's in most of their films. But I'm hoping to get a substantial role in one of their films some day.“
