WILL MADAARI SCORE AT THE BOX OFFICE?

Madaari is all set to release on Friday July 22 and lead actor Irrfan Khan is taking loads of interest in the film like never before. He’s also the producer of the film and the way he’s promoting and talking about the social causes that the film talks about is heartening. He also got into a bit of a trouble when he made controversial statements about the practice of ‘qurbani’. A section of people dubbed it as a publicity stunt but what he said made sense for sure. He also met Lalu Prasad Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal and tried to meet Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi as well. He didn’t succeed with the last two but this whole exercise did grab eyeballs.

The subject matter of the film is very strong but sadly, it’s not a mass-based film. Hence, the opening will be limited. But if the reports are good, the film can pick up. It’s the only Hindi release of the week – there’s also Kabali but it’s a dubbed film – and hence, it does have a chance this week. Also, Sultan will now slow down. It all depends on the content and how Nishikant Kamat has executed it. In the past, he impressed with Marathi film Dombivli Fast and Hindi films like Mumbai Meri Jaan and Drishyam. If he’s able to recreate a similar magic, Madaari can turn out to be one of the best films of 2016!
