WILL SULTAN EMERGE AS 2016’S BIGGEST HIT?
The first half of 2016 hasn’t been great. A lot of hopes are now pinned on the remaining 6 months and the second half begins on a rocking note with Sultan, starring Salman Khan. Releasing tomorrow, Sultan features the superstar as a wrestler from Haryana. The teaser came out in April and was loved. The trailer that came thereafter was loved even more. Anushka Sharma features opposite Salman and there’s also Randeep Hooda and Amit Sadh. Music by Vishal-Shekhar hasn’t become huge but in comparison to other films released this year, it has definitely worked big time. From the trailers, it seems like the film has ample doses of action, thrill, drama, romance and emotions. This makes the film a complete entertainer. The duration of the film is a bit longer (2 hrs 48 mins) but it won’t matter if the film is nice.
The film is releasing on a Wednesday (tomorrow is Ramzan Eid holiday) and hence it has a 5 day weekend. And it can have a record opening first day, going past the first day earnings of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. With no other film around, Sultan has got a very wide release. The good news is that the advance booking has been rocking. Hence, it won’t be wrong to expect a record-breaking opening day. On Thursday the collections will fall, which is natural – happens with every film releasing on a Wednesday. But Friday onwards, it can pick up again and can score big time on Saturday and Sunday as well. However, this will happen only if the reports are positive. If it’s not, then the film’s collections can get affected from Thursday onwards, though it won’t be as extreme as it happened with Shaandaar and Besharam (both these films opened huge but fell dramatically the next day as reports were bad).
Here’s hoping Sultan would rock and would give the industry the much-needed blockbuster!
