Known for his unique style
of music, which is influenced by Indian folk and Sufi, singer Kailash
Kher aspires to change the way the art is perceived in our country. He
elaborates, “It's not just for entertainment. It can also heal and
enlighten like yoga. That's why music therapy is practised in various
countries.“
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Kailash sang live at Rajpath, Delhi in the presence of Baba Ramdev for a huge crowd. He recalls, “The response was overwhelming. Rajpath had become Yogpath. I sang live for an hour as the audience's energy was inspiring. It was a divine amalgamation of music and yoga. More than one lakh people were dancing, not for entertainment but to find inner peace.“
Looking back at his journey, the artiste, who has rendered 800 tracks in 20 languages and penned the lyrics of over 200 songs, is grateful to God. “It has been an enriching experience. AR Rahman once told me, 'There are many voices but your voice is soulful.' Musicians are not respected unless they are famous. Fortunately, I have been accepted by listeners just the way I am,“ he signs off.
