Recent reports suggested
that the Hrithik Roshan-Kangana Ranaut case could come to a closure.
Apparently, the Mumbai Police, through a letter dated April 7, 2016,
has conveyed to the actress and her sister Rangoli to record their
statements within two days of receipt of the said summons. Moreover,
failure to abide shall attract liability under section 174 of the Indian
Penal Code (IPC), which includes imprisonment or fine or both.
However, Kangana's lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee maintains that the last letter that his client received from the cops was dated April 1, 2016, to which they have duly replied to. He says, “My clients have in no form or manner, whether through email or hand delivery, received any fresh request letter from the Cyber Crime Cell or any department of the Police, asking them to communicate the date, time and place to conduct any interview.“
Further, he asserts that he has sent the Cyber Crime Cell three letters, wherein the Ranauts have, in exercise of their rights as a concerned party, legally raised the demand to obtain a certified copy of FIR and the complainant's (Hrithik) statement. “The department has neglected and failed to hand over the same, despite repeated requests and reminders. Subsequent to this, even a complaint has been made against the Senior Inspector under section 25 of the Bombay Police Act 1950,“ he adds.
When probed about reports quoting police sources saying that the Ranauts are not entitled to a copy of the FIR, Siddiquee said, “That's for the police to say in their reply to my communication to them. We can't go on basis of what 'police sources' have been quoted in the papers.“
With reference to the Crime Branch letter dated April 7, he says, “Under the circumstances, it is therefore shocking to note that the police department, whilst willfully prejudicing my clients' rights as a concerned party, are now allegedly distributing the copy of some fresh request letter to the media and malafidely and mischievously mis-communicating to the media that my clients have been summoned within 48 hours. Whereas the true and correct fact is that no such fresh request letter has been served to my clients in the last nine days (From April 2 to noon of April 9).“
When told that sources indicate that the police, upset with delay on part of Kangana to record her statement, was considering tougher course of action against the actress, Siddiquee said, “My clients have never shown any dissent to co-operate. As a matter of fact, as soon as the cops share the FIR copy, my clients will immediately give their statements to them accordingly.“
