Her performance as the political figure, Indu Sakseria, in the 2010 political-thriller drama Raajneeti, was much appreciated but Katrina Kaif may not be a part of the film's second instalment. “I don't know whether the new storyline will suit Katrina, or if she is even interested in doing the film,“ said filmmaker Prakash Jha, who directed the original. “We will definitely want her to be in this instalment, but if the character becomes entirely different, then things are uncertain,“ he added.

Raajneeti featured Katrina and her ex-beau, Ranbir Kapoor, who she had been dating since the duo featured in the 2009 romcom, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, before their highly publicised split last month. The film also featured Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, Nana Patekar and Naseruddin Shah, among others. Whether or not Raajneeti 2 will be a sequel is a decision the director has yet to arrive at. “I don't know if we will continue from where we left the last story at or introduce a completely new plot. It may be slightly different,“ confirmed Jha who was inspired to revisit the film since he finds the current political scenario in the country “interesting“.
