Kunal Kapoor, who was last seen in Kaun Kitne Paani Mein, has signed Malayalam filmmaker Jayaraj's next, a trilingual titled Veeram. An adaptation of Shakespeare's play Macbeth, the film revolves around Kalaripayattu, a martial art form. The actor plays a warrior.
"It's an interesting story about bravery, lust, greed and power. It is centred on this warrior who prophesises that he will be king one day. It's every actor's dream to play Macbeth and I had wanted to do an action film for a long time so when I was offered this one, I immediately jumped on board," says Kunal. "I have been training with a Kalaripayattu expert from Kerala since the last three months. I had a great time learning it," says Kunal who will begin shooting later this week.
While the film is mostly based in the South, they will be shooting it in Trivandrum, Aurangabad and Agra in a start-to-finish schedule. It will be filmed simultaneously in Hindi, English and Malayalam. "It's a universal film and we want it to reach to the widest possible audience. Besides regular reading workshops with the director, I have also been learning Malayalam," says Kunal.
The actor has been spending a lot of time in the gym to gain muscle. He will be sporting a beard and a man-bun. "The director is a genius and has made some great films down South. I can't wait to begin shooting with him," exults Kunal.
