WILL WAZIR EMERGE AS THE FIRST HIT OF 2016?

The Dilwale-Bajirao Mastani clash has been put behind. Bollywood now looks forward to the new year and the new upcoming releases. The first one to arrive, tomorrow, is Wazir that stars Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar in leading roles. It is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and is directed by Bejoy Nambiar. The film was started almost 1 ½ years back and completed somewhere last year. It took a while to release as the makers preferred to better the film in the editing room. In fact, Vidhu himself has sat on the edit along with writer Abhijat Joshi. And the end product looks great and exciting.

What’s also exciting is that Bejoy Nambiar has directed it. Although his second film David was bad, his first film Shaitan was superb. Hence, the excitement is there and one hopes that Bejoy Nambiar can recreate the magic of Shaitan with Wazir. The trailers are interesting while the songs are soulful. Amitabh and Farhan look great together and their bond will be something to look forward to. Also how the chess element is used in the film will be also interesting to see.

However, Wazir faces challenges. It looks like a niche film and hence its opening can be good only in metros. It might struggle to perform in some of the regions of the country. Also, the film has to be good to sustain. Or else, it can fall from Day 2 itself. What’s good is that it’s a major Hindi release after 4 weeks. Hence, viewers starving for a Hindi film will surely check it out and that can prove advantageous.
