Colors doesn’t air the final episode of Comedy Nights on the scheduled date
Subhash K Jha (DNA; January 19, 2016)
For those who were looking forward to the farewell
episode of Comedy Nights With Kapil, the sudden cancellation of the
episode on Sunday night was a blow to viewers and the Comedy Nights team
alike. The episode which was to feature Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur,
was yanked off air at the eleventh hour, and no explanation was provided
for the abrupt change of plans. An insider close to the Comedy Nights
team spills beans. “The channel didn’t want the show to wrap up formally
with fanfare. They wanted an inglorious ending and decided to do away
with the farewell episode.” Following the flak for cancelling the finale
episode of CNWK, the channel later took a call to air it next week.
However the very fact that they pulled the show off air without even
informing Kapil, shows the levels to which his relationship with the
channel had plummeted.
Ali Asgar who plays Daadi in the show is heartbroken at the ugly deadend to their three-year show. “The last episode was beautiful. We thanked the lovely audience for their love and support through out the journey.. very emotional and feeling sad now. I think our show deserved a graceful exit.”
Says another member of the Comedy Nights team, “The news that the last episode won’t be aired was a blow to all of us. We were all looking forward to it. We kept hoping till the last moment that they would telecast our last episode. We had in fact planned a get-together for the team to watch our final episode together on that particular channel. Never mind. Let them play the spoilsport. We are going to come back in March.”
