Arjun Kapoor and Punit Malhotra

Arjun Kapoor and Punit Malhotra had worked as assistant directors for Nikhil Advani in Dharma Productions’ Kal Ho Naa Ho. On Friday, the two will unite for an ad for a mobile brand, which Arjun will act in and Punit will direct. The ad will be shot at YRF Studios.

Says a source, “The two started out with Dharma where Punit was Arjun’s senior on the sets of KHNH. Arjun was then assisting Nikhil Advani. And now Punit and Arjun will work together creatively… So life comes a full circle. Arjun was keen to have Punit on board and the brand wanted a young commercial kind of director so things worked out perfectly. Arjun and Punit get along extremely well, both have a similar mindset and the ad is breezy, fun and young. Arjun wanted a bit of masti in the ad. Also, Punit has the Dharma upbringing when it comes to aesthetics and quality... So he was a good fit for the brand.”

The source adds that Punit and Arjun have known each other for over 12 years now, so it worked out well for both when the brand decided he’ s the right director. “Punit has directed quite a few ads so he’s experienced that way which helps. When they worked together, both used to get along like a house on fire cracking jokes and discussing films. Who knows? Maybe one day both will come together for a film, too.”
