He has been active in the industry for over three decades but multifaceted actor Ali Asgar continues to be a restless child. “I don't want that kid to grow up. The restlessness in me keeps me on my toes and hungry to discover new things,“ he says. Known for his impeccable comic timing, the actor scaled new heights of popularity as Dadi in Comedy Nights With Kapil. “I had first declined the role, but Kapil convinced me. I was paired with him in another comedy show, in which I would play female characters. So, I was offered more drag. Initially, my son would complain that his friends teased him about my female avatars. Had I been taller, someone would have launched me as an actress,“ he laughs.

Ali is co-producing and acting in the play Dil Toh Bachha Hai Ji. “The story revolves around a couple in a loveless marriage. The husband falls for his secretary, but soon realises his love for his wife,“ he explains.

He is also returning to the fiction genre after over a year. “I have been playing Dadi, but 'Ali Asgar' has gone missing on screen. So now, I am back with an interesting concept,“ he says. The actor, who produced a Marathi film in 2009, plans to don the hat again. “I am planning a fiction (light hearted comedy) and a non fiction show. A Marathi movie is also in the pipeline,“ he signs off.
