Kamal Haasan on meeting His Holiness The Dalai Lama

Kamal Haasan recently met the Dalai Lama and the meeting lasted an entire hour. Says the actor, “I have always admired his resilience and purpose. Though I am a rationalist and hence, not of a spiritual bent, my meeting with him was invigorating and felt purposeful.”

Ask him about His Holiness’s knowledge of his career and Kamal laughs, “My lack of interest in matters of things spiritual in nature was matched by his disinterest in cinema. ‘I have not watched a single movie, not even television,’ he told me with a smile.”

Kamal adds, “For a man of his position, he indulged in small talk with abandon — a sign of a man who had no worldly worries. Above all, he loves the company of strangers.”

Kamal Haasan was accompanied by his lady-love and companion for 12 years, Gautami.
