Dharmendra's younger brother and Abhay Deol's father Ajit Singh Deol passed away on Friday evening at a nursing home in Juhu. He had been admitted to a South Mumbai hospital on September 20, following gall bladder complications. On October 14, the doctors attending to him told the family that the patient's condition was delicate and that they were still trying their best. That is the very day when Sunny Deol broke down after hearing about his uncle's deteriorating health. Dharmendra, his wife Prakash and Abhay's mother Usha were all present at Breach Candy that day. He was recently shifted to Juhu.

Ajit Singh Deol was a popular Punjabi actor and had acted in a few Hindi films too, including Bobby Deol's debut film, Barsaat (1995).

The funeral took place on Saturday morning at the Vile Parle crematorium. A visibly disturbed Dharmendra was seen accepting condolences from the film fraternity.
