Vidya Balan who has been shooting for Shekhar Sartandel's Ek Albela in which she plays Geeta Bali, has taken time off from her busy schedule to visit weavers in a small village on the outskirts of Hyderabad. "Vidya has made the national attire a style statement, draping the six yards around her gracefully even on a global platform. But what few know is that 95 percent of the saris she wears are hand woven and for a while now, she's been telling her designers that she would like to visit the looms and watch weavers work," informs a source close to the actress.
Finally, designer Gaurang Shah escorted her to this weavers village where she spent the day not just observing and interacting with the weavers, but also learning some of the techniques from them.
"She spent five hours there, sitting cross-legged on the floor, and even trying her hand at weaving. She even lunched at one of the weavers' homes," adds the source.
When contacted an elated Vidya said, "I have always wanted to visit a handloom and now am fascinated by the fact that couples spend hours weaving intricate designs together, often without speaking a single word all day."
