Bollywood playback singer,
the much sought-after Sunidhi Chauhan will share the stage with
world-famous music icons like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Pearl
Jam at the Global Citizen Festival, which will be held today at New York
City's Central Park.
Talking to us from the US, an ecstatic Sunidhi says, “I had butterflies in my stomach when I heard that I'm the only person representing India at the event. This is a proud moment for me and I'll give it my best. It's exciting to perform in front of so many people.“
The festival aims to spur activism to end poverty by 2030 and Sunidhi is glad to be a part of it. “It's encouraging to see that people from around the globe are taking an initiative for this noble cause. I'm happy to be associated with it,“ she says.
The line-up for the event has been curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. “I got a call from Chris who introduced himself saying, 'Hi Sunidhi, I am Chris Martin from Coldplay. I'm very fond of your music and your voice and want you to perform at the festival.' At first, I refused to believe him but later, I realised it was actually him,“ says the singer.
Talking about her act, Sunidhi adds, “It will be a 10-minute performance and I want my songs to represent our country. It's a medley of four numbers but I want to keep it a surprise. All I can reveal is that one of the songs that I have chosen is Sajna Ve Sajna as it's my personal favourite.“
The songstress is also equally thrilled about meeting other international artistes. “Hugh Jackman, Usher, Bono, Stephen Colbert, Leonardo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek and many more will host the show so I'm delighted as I'll get to meet all of them personally,“ she exclaims.
Sunidhi plans to make the most of the situation. “I'm a huge fan of Beyoncé. I've flown internationally quite often to see her live in action. Now, I'll perform on the same stage. It's an awesome feeling,“ she says. She adds that she also plans to take selfies with all the artistes.“Usually I don't click pictures with anyone but this time around, I am going to make an exception,“ she signs off.
