Everest is a spellbinding film that talks about a real-life tragedy that happened at the ‘most dangerous place on earth’ in 1996. On the informative level, it works big time as it attempts to talk about how the mountaineers plan their journey and the different levels and obstacles faced by them while reaching the top. But this is a film and in that regard, it becomes a bit dragging. Also, the ending is a bit underwhelming, especially the track of Jason Clarke, who in many ways is the leading character in the narrative. There’s a minor goof up in the film as well – Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’s Yeh Ladki Haay Allah plays in a Nepal bus in 1996 – but that doesn’t affect the impact in any way though. However, the cinematography is bound to take your breath away! Amazing CGI as well! Even the sound design is mindblowing! Do yourself a favour – watch this film in IMAX or Dolby Atmos enabled theatre – to get the actual Everest experience! Jason Clarke is amazing, Jake Gyllenhaal plays the bindass Scott Fischer with ease, Josh Brolin leaves a tremendous mark, Emily Watson supports well. Keira Knightley is very impressive despite having a cameo.
