There is a startling departure from the original
Malayalam film in the Hindi remake of Drishyam. The hero’s 18-year old
daughter here is his adopted child. This was not the case in the
original film and its Tamil remake where Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan
happily played a grown-up daughter’s father.
In Bollywood it’s different. Says a source, “Ajay didn’t mind playing father on screen. He is a father in real life. But his real-life kids are very young. He can’t play daddy to a grown up girl on screen. It will hurt his image. That’s why the remake has a line about the daughter who is the epicenter of dramatic conflict, being an adopted child. Ajay’s adopted daughter is played by Tanushree’s Dutta’s sister Ishita who is 24 years old.
