As we went to press, reports coming in from the capital said that Shahid Kapoor and his bride Mira Rajput had left the farmhouse, where they got married, and headed for the five-star venue where their reception was held last night. A little before noon, the couple was listening to the granth being recited at the ceremony. Shahid, in a pastel sherwani, was the picture perfect groom; completely over the moon, and his bride, who was colour coordinated with him, also could not stop beaming.

At the sangeet ceremony on Monday, there were just 150 guests. Says our source, “There were 45 people from Shahid's side and the remaining 105-odd guests were from Mira's side. At one point, it was decided that the two sides - Sasha with his parents, friends and siblings, and Mira's parents and relatives, would form two teams and compete with one another. And though Sasha's side had just 45 people, it won, thanks to the groom himself, who is a proficient dancer.'' Of course, the bride and groom also danced together. Apparently, as in all shaadis, there was a lot of leg-pulling.

The bride and groom were expected to do a photo-op for the paparazzi that had gathered outside the five-star hotel where they proceeded post the ceremony.

"There is no wedding happening here. The venue is decorated for birthday celebrations. Aaj guruji ka birthday hai,“ we were told when we reached what we had learned was Shahid and Mira's sangeet venue. Contrary to reports, the mehendi and sangeet ceremony finally didn't happen at Mira's farmhouse in Chattarpur, but in another farmhouse close to the Radha Soami Satsang Beas ashram there. But the 'birthday' turned out to be just a smokescreen, as guests soon began arriving and the revelry began in full swing. Shahid and Mira's pre-wedding functions had kicked off.

As soon as Shahid arrived at Delhi airport at around 4 pm on Monday, he led mediapersons on a wild goose chase around the capital. First, he reportedly went to meet his friend in Delhi, and thereafter, proceeded to meet the bride's family. The sangeet ceremony was held on Monday evening, where Shahid and Mira arrived hand in hand. Shahid wore a maroon bandhgala and jacket and Mira was in a bright yellow lehenga and backless choli.

Apart from Shahid's family Pankaj Kapur, Supriya Pathak, Neelima Azim and his step siblings -there were just couple of friends from the groom's side. “Most guests were from the bride's family and every guest was given instructions not to click any pictures,“ shared the lady, who did the bride's mehendi. The decor was pristine white with ethnic elements. Giving it a perfect filmi touch were the posters of the bride and groom with taglines like 'Mera Saiyyan Superstar'.

Once the music and dance was in full swing, 'Shira', as the bride and groom were christened by the guests, made a rocking entry on stage amid loud cheers and hoots. The couple danced together to Chittiyan Kalaiyan, and at one point, Shahid went down on his knees as Mira continued to sway.

From Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai, Tum Se Hi to Is This Love, songs from all of Shahid's films were played. But it wasn't all about just filmi music. Dholwallahs were invited to give the evening a perfect Punjabi punch.Shahid also gave an emotional speech in which he thanked his parents and welcomed Mira into his family.

WE HAVE HAD 50 ARRIVALS SINCE MORNING
The Gurgaon hotel, where Shahid and his family, including Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak, are staying, had begun to see action since early Monday afternoon. By evening, everyone had dressed up and was leaving for the sangeet venue in turns - after Pankaj and Supriya left for Chattarpur, they were followed by Neelima Azeem, Ishaan Khattar, Dolly Ahluwalia, Bosco Martis and Masaba Gupta. A hotel staff member, without realising that he was speaking to the press, told us, “Pankaj and Surpriyaji bought some gifts from our gift shop before leaving for the sangeet. We have had 50 arrivals since morning.“
