Inside the plush lobby of a
hotel in Sonamarg, all eyes were on Salman Khan who had arrived in the
Valley last week to shoot for Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The
actor, who was sentenced to five years in jail by a sessions court in
the 2002 hit-and-run case on May 6, later secured bail two days
later when the Bombay High Court suspended his
sentence. And last Monday he reached Srinagar.
The actor looked visibly tired after a long shoot but began on a cheerful note, waxing eloquent on Kashmir. “We're stupid to go to Switzerland. There is no other place on planet earth that is as beautiful as Kashmir,“ said Sallu.
Surprisingly, his famour temper did not flare up when the questions soon turned to his legal troubles. “My problems are too small compared to what is happening in the world,“ he said, adding, “I don't know if I deserve so much love but I am accepting it....I sincerely owe a lot to everyone who has stood by me.“
He's adopted a family in Kashmir and the youngest son is working on the sets of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. “I will do whatever it takes to make a person's life better... For me politics is social work and I will continue doing that,“ he asserted.
Recently, members of J&K's ruling party had approached the actor to become the state's brand ambassador. He had declined the offer, pointing to the then impending verdict. Will he consider it now? To this, Salman cheekily replied, “Why only Kashmir? I will become the brand ambassador of India.“
