Such is the empathy that Ranbir Kapoor shares with the protagonist of The Outsider that he wants to bring the character to the big screen

He is not a social media maven, is regularly seen giving the finger to the paparazzi and guards his personal life with a vengeance; so its no exaggeration to state that Ranbir Kapoor is one of the rare, aloof stars of Bollywood.
The novel's protagonist Meursault is an aloof, apathetic character, so much so that he does not cry at his own mother's funeral and commits a murder soon after.
Mirror overheard the conversation, with Ranbir telling his friend: "I don't give a damn anymore. I identify with 'The Outsider'. I think I am him. I could not put the book down and read it in six days straight. I also don't cry anymore. I cannot remember the last time I cried. I am hoping I get to play this character on the big screen since I identify with him," insisted the actor.
On the contrary, Ranbir's current portfolio is a lot more cheerful. In Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha, he plays a happy-go-lucky traveller while Jagga Jasoos sees him play a song-loving sleuth. Adding a dark tinge to the repertoire is Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet where he plays a street-smart boxer killing his way to the top.
