WILL HUNTERRR MAKE A MARK?

Phantom Films have achieved a lot of respect ever since it was launched in 2011. All films of Phantom till date - Lootera, Hasee Toh Phasee, Queen, Katiyabaaz, Ugly - and the last week's release NH10 have been appreciated big time. Hence, there are expectations from Hunterrr that releases tomorrow. Moreover, it's not seen as a sleazy sex comedy made just to titillate front benchers. Audiences are hoping that it'll have a lot to say and at the same time be entertaining as well. The film stars Gulshan Devaiah in the lead role and chronicles his life from being a child to a 30+ guy and the women that come in his life, namely Sai Tamhankar, Radhika Apte, Veera Saxena and supposedly some more. The promos indicate that the film is in a ‘naughty’ zone. Songs are quirky but haven’t been chartbusters. But these tracks can pick up after release. One track is incidentally is by Bappi Lahiri while one song is crooned by Altaf Raja.

As is the case with the other recent films, Hunterrr has the advantage of absence of strong competition. The films that are releasing tomorrow with Hunterrr are no way a threat. NH10 might affect the film’s prospects but again, it released last week and hence it might slow down in Week 2. Also, next Friday there’s no significant release at all and hence, it can have a free run till the release of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy-Furious 7 on April 3. However, for that, the film has to carry positive reports. Despite being in the zone of the ‘sex comedy’ genre, it might not work in the massy areas as the film is seen more as an ‘arthouse’ cinema. Therefore, opening will be poor or average at best. The collections can improve over the weekend hopefully. The cost of the film is reasonable but it’s getting a wide release. It’s only positive word of mouth that can help the film achieve commercial success.
