Shruti Haasan is all for the DNA ICan marathon, which she says encourages women and is for a good cause
As told to Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; February 28, 2015)

Though I haven’t taken part in a marathon, running is an important part of my fitness regime. When I run, I also feel mentally clear. However, while running, one has to make sure that the surface is good — it is important to take care of your knees.

If for some reason, I cannot run outdoors, I use the treadmill in the house. Instead of looking at the clock to see how much time I am spending on the treadmill, I listen to songs or sing. It depends on my mood, but I see to it that they are fun songs.

Fortunately, I don’t have to work out too much and I don’t like to, because I tend to get too muscular. I don’t like the too lean or ripped look. But there was a time when I used to work out everyday, was obsessed about burning fat and would count the calories of everything I ate. It was crazy and not the way to be. Now I work out in moderation and lead a healthy lifestyle.

For those taking part in the marathon, I would say build your stamina and flexibility. You don’t want to pull your muscle or injure yourself while running. Looking at the energy around, you tend to exert yourself, so you need to increase your stamina. Start preparing by practising running a few days prior to the marathon.

One of the fittest persons I have seen is Mandira Bedi. I am amazed by her. She trains really hard and is always either running or walking somewhere. She is very agile and the best person to run a marathon.

The dna ICan marathon is a great initiative as it supports the cause of women. I wish the participants the best of luck — do really well and enjoy yourselves.
