There were three actresses in the running for the Best Actress in 2014. Kangana Ranaut (Queen), Alia Bhatt (Highway) and Priyanka Chopra (Mary Kom). Strangely, Kangana has not won a single award this year, though the critics and the audiences loved her performance and the film. One can’t help but wonder if that is so because she declared before the award season that she would not be going to any award show this year.

The organisers want actors to attend their functions, so awards are given to those who put in appearances. In fact, most actresses strike deals in advance and walk in on the condition that they will walk out with an award. Kajol and Akshay Kumar are two actors who attend award shows even when they are not nominated in any category. In the last few years, Salman has also refused to accept awards. And of course, the ‘not accepting an award’ culture was started by Aamir Khan.

Will more actors join this movement of boycotting all awards because none of them are credible?
