Our very own Master Blaster
Sachin Tendulkar is all set to blaze the silver screen with the first of
its kind, yet-to-be-titled docu-feature. The film will capture the
phenomenal rise of Sachin Tendulkar. It will have aspects of his life
which have never been seen before. Sachin won't be acting, but will be
playing himself in the docu-feature.
The mega project, conceived by Mumbai-based production company 200 Not Out, has been in the works for over a year, in co-ordination with World Sports Group, the firm that manages brand Sachin.
This will be the first instance in the world of a cricketer being the subject for a theatrical release. Sachin will also be the first Asian joining the list of personalities like Michael Jackson and Ayrton Senna, whose lives were captured in theatrical releases This Is It and Senna, respectively. Having produced over 150 ads and short films, the production house has been filming Sachin's journey for the past 18 months and is in the process of collecting reels of archival footage. The firm has roped in James Erskine, an award-winning London-based writer, director and producer for helming the docu-feature. James' feature documentary One Night In Turin was released nationwide in the runup to the 2010 Football World Cup. He has also directed the film The Battle Of The Sexes, which captures the story of the most-watched tennis match ever, between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. His latest work, released earlier in 2014, is Pantani: The Accidental Death Of A Cyclist, a documentary on Marco Pantani, one of the most flamboyant and popular cyclists of the 90s. He has also directed a cricket film, From The Ashes.
Ravi Bhagchandka, founder, 200 Not Out, said, “It is our honour to work on this unique initiative. As a young passion ate team, it is our commitment to present the viewers with never-before-seen facets and footage on the Master Blaster. We decided on working with James Erskine after studying the many incredible films involving sports personalities. This will be the first time he will be working in this part of the world. We will work with the best in the business for this docu-feature, so it becomes a fitting tribute to the unparalleled achievements of Sachin Tendulkar.“
Ravi added that the film is not a biopic on Sachin. Leading talent from the Indian film industry is also expected to be associated with the initiative.
