Police and security agencies in Punjab and Haryana were put on high alert on Friday following protests against Dera Sacha Sauda leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim's debut movie MSG: The Messenger of God.

More than two lakh followers, including women and children, had gathered in Leisure Valley Ground in Gurgaon, NCR, for the film's premiere, scheduled that afternoon. The district administration had made special arrangements and 60 Indian National Students' Organisation activists were detained in Gurgaon as they prepared to march to the venue As members of the Sikh community and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) workers also gathered in numbers, the premiere was postponed till Sunday.

In Punjab, additional security forces were stationed in Amritsar and Bathinda. Sikh organisations and leaders are opposed to the sect and its leader.

Authorities in Haryana put security forces on alert in Sirsa district, where the sect has its headquarters.
