Randeep Hooda had an interesting mix of releases in 2014. Now, in a bid to extend his repertoire, he wants to break away from his 'serious actor' image. “I always had a clear idea of the kind of films I would like to be a part of. Thankfully, I have managed to do those kinds of movies. Now, I want to experiment a little more than what I already have,“ he says.

The actor is glad that his portrayal of Mahabir Bhati in Highway last year garnered appreciation. He states, “We got a good response with that film even though I was playing a brute. Maybe it is time to move towards some frothy love stories.“

While he is keen to try his hand at romance, one wonders if Randeep is game for the song-and-dance routine. “I want to dive right in. I would like to mould myself to my director's vision. I want to be challenged by my directors and will try to overcome each one of them. I don't like things working out too easily. The minute I feel things are coming to me too effortlessly, I start feeling stuck,“ he says.

Does that imply that intense roles will take a backseat? “I will play brooding characters, but there will be more to me than just that,“ he concludes.
