In Dolly Ki Doli, directed by Abhishek Dogra, Rajkummar Rao plays a loud Haryanvi. “My character Somu Sehrawat's a proper Jat boy from Sonepat. He thinks he is a superior human being. He is not accustomed to hearing a 'no' from anyone. He's got a massive ego, but thinks from his heart,“ says the National Award-winning actor. To prepare for his role, Rajkummar sought help from his Haryanvi friends. “I'd call my friends home and also ask them to send me messages and jokes in Haryanvi, so that it would remain in my subconscious mind while shooting.“ he says.

About working with Sonam Kapoor, he says, “She is easy-going and a very patient co-star.“

Recalling their suhaag raat sequence, he laughs, “It's a small scene shot in the dark and since there were few retakes, I ended up drinking six big glasses of milk. It made me feel horrible. Sonam was laughing throughout the shoot.“

What was most exciting for Rajkummar was dancing for the first time on the big screen, and that too, with Malaika Arora Khan. “I've always loved dancing. When the acting bug bit me, dancing was relegated to the background. Obviously, Arbaaz and Malaika were pleasantly surprised to see me shake a leg.“

Dolly Ki Doli, produced by Arbaaz Khan Productions, releases January 23.
