The makers of Akshay
Kumar starrer Baby hope that the film, set against the
backdrop of international terrorism, will redefine the action thriller
genre in India. Director Neeraj Pandey, who's known for his realistic
treatment - from shooting in real locations to keeping onscreen
proceedings as raw as possible - has used the same weapons that actual
black op agents use on field.
During filming, the makers also had an expert on location to familiarise the actors with such sophisticated weaponry. Interestingly, the actor and the filmmaker were so impressed with the professional that they even went to a firing range in Istanbul, to shoot a few rounds themselves.
And in keeping with the realistic touch in the Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Shital Bhatia produced film, Akshay and Neeraj opted for the Glock 17 - the original 9x19 mm Parabellum model with a standard magazine capacity of 17 rounds. Reportedly, several modified versions of the gun have been introduced and are said to be widely used by defense agents across the world.
On choosing this particular gun, Neeraj says, “We have gone very close to the actual firearms used by the kind of agent that Akshay and team play in the film. These weapons, especially the Glock, has a strong character and fitted the action brief perfectly . Though its difficult to use and took an expert's guidance, the result on screen is authentic.“
Baby, presented by Gulshan Kumar and produced by TSeries, Cape Of Good Films, Friday Filmworks and Crouching Tiger , releases January 23.
