The theatre is located in the Lotte World Tower, which is still under construction and when completed will be South Korea’s tallest building, at 123 stories. The complex’s lower levels — including the theatre, a shopping mall and aquarium — opened earlier this year, but have been making headlines for a string of problems. Among them are cracks in the wall, sinkholes and leaks in the aquarium. Earlier this month, one of the movie theatre’s screens vibrated while showing a film.

The theatre is the largest movie complex in Asia, with 21 screens and 4,615 seats. One of its screens, Super Plex G (see pic below), holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest screen. It measures 34 meters by 13.8 meters and is in a two-story, opera-theater-style room with 622 seats.

Major red-carpet events that were scheduled to take place have been called off. The VIP premiere for Showbox/Mediaplex and Wow Picture’s period drama The Royal Tailor, which was due to take place on Wednesday, was cancelled, while the showcase for The Tenor Lirico Spinto, starring Korean heartthrob Yoo Ji-tae and scheduled for December 22, has been moved to Lotte Cinema’s Cheongnyangni branch.
