2013 was a good year for Deepika Padukone. Her
powerful performance in Ram Leela saw her sweeping almost all the awards
last year. Apart from that, she had three more box-office successes:
Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express.
Do awards matter to her, though? Some of her peers don’t particularly care for laurels. She says, “Of course, awards matter to me. If I had a year like 2013, and didn’t win any award, I would’ve been very disappointed. They do mean a lot, no matter what we say. At the end of the day, the person who goes up and wins the award feels nice that he/she has won.”
She further adds, “It is a sign of appreciation and hard work. And if you’ve won so many awards, you’re probably doing something right.”
Tell her eight different actresses are usually awarded at eight different functions and she shoots back, cheekily, “That’s there, but then last year, I won all the awards....”
