While the public perception is that Rajkummar Rao is one of the three main leads in Mohit Suri's upcoming love triangle, Humari Adhuri Kahani, along with Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan, Mirror has learnt that the actor is only making a special appearance in the film.

Revealed a source close to the production, “The film focuses largely on the relationship between Vidya and Emraan. Rajkummar has a significant role in terms of the transformation his character goes through.“

When contacted the actor said, “It's a pivotal role but not in terms of screen time. When the script came to me, I found the part challenging as an actor as it has given me the opportunity to play something I haven't attempted before.“

It was the film's writer-producer, Mahesh Bhatt, who convinced him to come on board. Said Bhatt, “Rajkummar brings an emotional truth to a character that is hard to find. He's an exceptionally rooted actor. He goes from being a man with a patriarchal mindset, someone who would otherwise have kept his wife caged, to a person with a world view. It may not be a big role in terms of footage, but it's incredibly complex and layered.“

The film went on floors on October 2 in Kolkata.
