Katrina Kaif reportedly threw a surprise birthday party for Ranbir Kapoor on September 28. But the celebrations ended early because on Monday, the 32-year-old superstar underwent surgery to treat his adenoid tonsil in a Mumbai hospital. He has reportedly taken a short break to recuperate. When contacted, his father, Rishi Kapoor said, “His adenoid surgery is routine. It's nothing major; it's a normal thing, like sinus. Ranbir had five days off, so he got the operation done. He will be discharged today.“

Apparently, the adenoid had been troubling Ranbir for a while because of which he had to sometimes sleep with his mouth open, to facilitate breathing.

WHAT IS ADENOID?
The adenoid, also known as a pharyngeal tonsil or nasopharyngeal tonsil, is a mass of lymphatic tissue situated posterior to the nasal cavity, in the roof of the nasopharynx, where the nose blends into the throat. Even if the enlarged adenoid is not substantial enough to physically block the back of the nose, it can obstruct airflow enough so that breathing through the nose requires an uncomfortable amount of work, and inhalation occurs instead through an open mouth.

Just a day after ringing in his 32nd birthday, Ranbir Kapoor was apparently admitted at Breach Candy Hospital for a minor surgery. A source says that Ranbir was admitted in the hospital on Monday afternoon and had to go undergo a minor nasal surgery.

Turns out that the actor, who is said to have celebrated his birthday with girlfriend Katrina Kaif and a few close friends on Sunday, was experiencing some discomfort and it was a minor procedure for which he was admitted at the hospital for half a day.

“Ranbir was admitted on Monday afternoon, as he had to undergo a minor surgery in the evening. The actor is fine now and he was discharged in a couple of hours,” says a source.

The actor was unavailable for comment.
