Singer-actor Ayushmann Khurrana is taking his love for
music to the next level by forming a band, christened Ayushmann After
School. He says, “After school, my friends and I used to get together to
jam and perform — and hence the name. All band members will be dressed
in school uniforms.” The songs will be predominantly Punjabi, but
Ayushmann says that they won’t restrict themselves to any particular
language. “We will have Punjabi songs, but we will also have songs in
Hindi and maybe English, too.”
Band baaja
The band will have about five members but names will be revealed later. Ayushmann says, “Forming a band is a process, it’ll take at least two more months for us to announce the whole team. But it will definitely have my friend Rochak Kohli, with whom I have worked on many songs.” Besides forming the band, Ayushmann is also all set to release his next single Mitti Di Khushboo, composed by Rochak, in October.
Music on his mind
Speaking about the band’s sound, he says, “Punjabi music is expected to be fast and pacy, but the sound of our band will be alternative Punjabi rock. The kind of genre that Paani Da Rang, Sadi Gali and Mitti Di Khushboo fits in.”
Bollywood and music
Apart from music, the actor is also busy with movies. He has Hawaizaada, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Hamara Bajaj in his kitty. And though he is busy shooting, Ayushmann says he is confident that he will be able to find time for his band. “We jam almost everyday. Music is something I am extremely passionate about. I do my riyaaz after my shoots. I did train for a few years, but I am not a classical singer. However, I know that there’s certain quality to my voice that sets me apart,” he says.
