Why should actresses stake their claim in the 100 crore club in a hero-dominated film?

In a recent interview to the
Bombay Times,Priyanka Chopra was the first actress to boldly ask the
question that we have asked several times, `Why should you credit
heroines who are riding on the back of a hero saying that they are 100
crore heroines? Why should you give me Box Office credit in hero-centric
films like Don or Krrish 3?' Well, we can't agree with her more. We are
the only publication that has stopped giving credit to actresses for
the Box Office performance, unless it has an actress as the solo
protagonist. We endorse the view that the real Box Office strength of an
actress can be tested only through films that have the actress playing
the lead role. Does that mean that an actress has no role in the success
of a film? No, she does, but what this means is that, in a top
herocentric film, the result of the Box Office would be unaffected if
actress `A' would be replaced by actress `B' so far as they are of the
same level. And thus, an actress staking her claim is not justified. But
most top actresses have either lost perspective or choose to not have it
and go into a hyper PR overdrive through their overenthusiastic PRs to
push stories claiming their superstar power. If any film crosses the
Rs.100 crore mark, media and actresses are happy taking and giving
interviews claiming how they have again given another Rs.100 crore film.
While there are only a few actresses amongst the current working ones
who have had the guts to taken on women-centric roles, there are only
four -Vidya Balan (The Dirty Picture, Kahaani), Priyanka Chopra
(Fashion), Sridevi (English Vinglish) and Kangana Ranaut (Queen) who
have proven their own Box Office standing. We hope to see the others
testing themselves soon, as against just jumping on to the hero hit
bandwagon.
