KICK – 1ST BLOCKBUSTER OF 2014!

The Salman Khan starrer Kick has opened with a bang! Although it was an Eid release, the festival fell only on Tuesday July 29 while the film released on July 25. Many thought the film would not perform well before Tuesday, as a sizeable section of audiences remain away from theatres during the holy month of Ramazan. However, all were surprised when Kick’s first day collections turned out to be HUGE! The Day 2 collections were as much as Day 1 while Day 3 was even better. Monday obviously wasn’t very huge but the film picked up significantly on Tuesday as expected. In 5 days, Kick earned approx Rs 120 crores and that’s a feat!

What makes Kick’s success even more significant is that Salman Khan’s last film Jai Ho had under-performed. In fact, many were concerned whether Salman Khan would be able to spin his magic again with Kick. After all, Jai Ho’s BO performance maybe proved that audiences might not be interested to see the same kind of aspects in a Salman film. However, the team of Kick thankfully made sure that Kick stood out from the rest of Salman films. Salman Khan’s entry was comical and not action-packed. He didn’t go shirtless in the climax. The focus was not just on Salman – Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui too had an important part to essay. And the humour quotient along with action and chase scenes made Kick a film to watch out for. Yes, there were some hiccups in the narrative but overall, it made for a great watch, for most moviegoers.

The question that arises now is – How far can Kick go? Will it pick again in the second weekend? It surely will cross 200 crore, but will it cross the 208 crore collections of Chennai Express? Whatever be the fate of Kick, the film has put smiles on exhibitors, distributors, producers and most of the viewers as well, and that’s what matters the most at the end of the day. Here’s hoping the forthcoming biggies too manage to attract viewers in hordes!
