WILL VARUN-ALIA MAGIC WORK ONCE AGAIN WITH HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA?
Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt had one of the best debuts of recent times with Karan Johar’s directorial venture Student Of The Year. Both proved their worth in their successive films too and now they are back together with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, produced by Karan Johar and directed by newbie Shashank Khaitan. The film is also the launch vehicle of Sidharth Shukla, known for playing Shiv in the daily soap Balika Vadhu and who has a sizeable fan following.
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, as the name suggests, gives an ode to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The theatrical trailer wasn’t extraordinary as such but it gave an indication that the film would be a fun-filled light entertainer. The songs however have worked well, especially Saturday Saturday and Samjhawan. An unplugged version of the latter was released, that was sung by Alia Bhatt and it has been well received. Moreover, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is a solo Hindi release and has no major competition as such even next week. Hence, it can have a free run till the release of Kick on July 25.
What goes against Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, as said above, is the trailer wasn’t quite extraordinary. Hence, a section of moviegoing audience has doubts about the film. Although it’s a solo Hindi release, it faces competition from the Hollywood biggie Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and Marathi film Lai Bhaari (starring Riteish Deshmukh in a massy avatar). The Holy month of Ramadan is going on and hence, a section of audience won’t be plying to theatres. The film can have a dream run only if the response is positive. Or else, it can crash from Monday or worse, from Saturday itself.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA AND WHY? DO LET ME KNOW!
