The promotional campaign of Filmistaan saw its lead actor Sharib Hashmi (another 'Hashmi' after Emraan Hashmi) stalking B-Town celebrities like an obsessed fan. He would barge in during shoots and get himself photographed with popular actors and directors. Says Sharib, “The film is an ode to Bollywood and before it hits the screens, I want to rub shoulders with some prominent members of the industry."

The movie has Sharib playing aspiring actor Sunny Arora. While working as an assistant director - as a short cut to enter films - he gets kidnapped by Pakistani militants and is taken hostage across the border. There he's kept in the house of Aftab (Inaam Ul Haq), a villager who makes a living by pirating Indian films. The two bond over movies and forge a unique friendship.

The story unfolds to reveal how cinema can be a binding force between the two countries.

Filmistaan, a Satellite Pictures Production presented by Shringar Films and UTV Spotboy, releases June 6.
