EK VILLAIN had an excellent first day as it recorded collections of 16.50 crore nett on day one. The all India collections were similar
to JAI HO with multiplexes being better and single screens less. The
film is the first big real opener of the year as JAI HO had a wider release
and although collections were good they could should have been better
for its release.
The collections were fantastic all over with some circuits recording the highest collections for the year. Delhi/UP, East Punjab (despite competition from Punjabi film PUNJAB 1984) and Mysore were all better than JJAI HO and tops for the year. West Bengal may also make to this list.
The opening day ensures its success and its remains to be seen how big of a lifetime number it finally puts up. The first day was always expected to be huge but it has actually come out a couple of crore more than the huge expectations which is rare.
--------------------------
EK VILLAIN recorded one of highest opening days ever with business of around 16.50 crore nett which is similar to the figures recorded by JAI HO earlier this year. The film is the eleventh highest opening day of all time.
It can be noted that the films above JAI HO all feature one of the five biggest box office stars of the country - Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor - which makes EK VILLAIN figure all the more impressive.
Also some of the releases above EK VILLAIN are holiday releases which is an extra advantage. The top three films - DHOOM 3, EK THA TIGER and CHENNAI EXPRESS - stand apart with totals in excess of 30 crore nett. Below are the top fifteen domestic opening days of all time lifetime till date.
