Amit Sadh, who fractured his ankle recently, talks about training for international cycling competitions
Upala KBR (DNA; May 13, 2014)
Amit Sadh, last seen in Kai Po Che, broke his ankle while filming his next film Guddu Rangeela, two months ago. The setback, however, hasn’t crushed his indomitable spirit. He plans to go to London later this year to train and compete in an international cycling competition in 2015.
Few people know that you are a professional cyclist.
I have always been very good at cycling and have participated at college and state levels but then I became an actor. My injury has set me back but I’m determined to continue with my cycling which I enjoy. I was invited to participate in a cycling race (not at the competitive level) in Sussex and north Yorkshire in June this year but I can’t attend that now. Once my leg heals completely I plan to go to London for a few days in September and get a trainer to train me for six weeks so I can compete at the international cycling races next year. I want to compete at some stage as it’s been my dream as a teenager.
Disappointed that you couldn’t participate this year?
Temporary setbacks are a part of and parcel of life. I certainly would like to stay away from mishaps but if they happen you have to live with it. I am never shattered by anything because I am never desperate for anything. I have the right amount of enthusiasm and exuberance for me to keep on walking.
How did you fracture your leg?
I was shooting in Shimla and had to slide down a staircase in a mall. I slipped and landed awkwardly on my right foot. They immediately rushed me to the hospital and I was operated in Mumbai within 24 hours. I was home for two months and shot again day before in Wai for the first time since my fracture. I can walk but with a slight limp.
What about your other directors?
I was scared that my producers would drop me after my fracture. I signed a film with Tigmanshu Dhulia after 10 years of wanting to work with him. I called him to say that I had fractured my ankle and if he wanted he could drop me. I thought he would kick me out. But he rebuked me saying not to be silly and he would wait for me. Tigmanshu is a darling and I was almost in tears when he said that. It’s been my dream of working with him for 10 years...
Post Kai Po Che you have kept a low key profile.
I prefer to stay away from parties and events. I am not the kind of person to shout from the rooftops talking about myself. I would rather let my work speak for itself when my film releases. Now when my next film Running Shaadi.com will release in July I will do whatever my producer wants me to do. As an actor I would rather be neck-deep in preparation and in becoming the character than partying or being snapped for Pg. 3 events.
