Sajid Khan says there are nine reasons to watch the trailer of his next Humshakals, which goes online today. “There are three Saifs (Ali Khan), three Riteishs (Deshmukh) and three Rams (Kapoor),” adds the director, who’s the first to make a film with three actors in triple roles interacting with each other. The concept, which seems fun on paper, “took the juice out” of Sajid’s brain. He says, “I had to make sure it meets the acceptance level and yet, at the same time, ensure the viewer doesn’t feel shortchanged.”
Interestingly, Saif hasn’t ventured into a comedy like this before. Sajid says, “One Saif is the kinda cool guy the audience likes, while the other two are in my mad zone. Riteish has done five films with me, so he knows my pattern of working. Ram is a fine actor.”
One of the highlights in this zany comedy, produced by Vashu Bhagnani, is a song sequence featuring Saif, Riteish and Ram romancing Saif, Riteish and Ram dressed as women.
Before you wonder about the parts the girls — Esha Gupta, Tamannaah and Bipasha Basu — play with the nine men, Sajid assures they have a lot of scope. “The confusion happens because the three girls are getting confused,” he explains.
Humshakals, produced by Pooja Entertainment and Films Ltd and presented by Fox Star Studios, releases June 20.
