On May 13, 2013, Bombay Times carried a story of how Chitrangda Singh had filed for divorce from her golfer husband, Jyoti Randhawa. We’d also said in that story, that the date set for the next hearing by Baljeet Singh, District Judge, Family Court, Gurgaon, was November 11, 2013 — the date they would be granted divorce, since it was divorce by mutual consent, and the stipulated time for being granted divorce in such a case was a minimum of six months.
After that, while Jyoti maintained a stoic silence over the whole affair, Chitrangda went on a denial overdrive, telling the whole world nothing was wrong with their marriage. When she was asked why she’d moved, bag and baggage, to Mumbai by then, she said she was concentrating on her filmi career. And ever since, the rumours of whether they are divorced or not have been doing the rounds.

 Well, here’s putting all those rumours and, hopefully, all those denials, to rest. Since her lawyer, Osama Suhail, had told us on Friday that he “can neither deny nor confirm the divorce”, but it is “true that I represented Chitrangda Singh in her divorce case,” and since he had mentioned that the divorce record was in the public domain, we decided to do some legwork and get certified copies of the duo’s divorce decree from the court. The papers here attest the fact that the now excouple did indeed get divorced on the exact date that we had mentioned they would — November 11, 2013.

 And even though they went on a denial bout to the media, Chitrangda and Jyotinder had, as early as May 2013, submitted a joint statement to the family court, in which they had stated that they have been living separately since February 2011. “We ourselves, as well as our friends,relations and well-wishers tried at their level best to bring about matrimonial union between us but the same could not be successful. Now there are no chances of our living together as husband and wife and therefore, we, out of our free will, have decided to take divorce by mutual consent,” reads the statement.
