The positive response to Lakshmi has paved the way for the release of another Nagesh Kukunoor project lying in the cans for years now.
Yeh Hausla, toplining Sameera Reddy, is a true story set in a village and revolves around five women and their unique way of empowering themselves. They become documentary filmmakers, leaving aside their jobs at farms and their respective homes.
The project didn’t find buyers, and was with Percept Picture Company who had completed the production by 2009. Percept’s CEO Shailendra Singh admitted, “I’m proud of Yeh Hausla because it’s a brave film and bears Nagesh’s signature style. We have been looking to partner with someone to release this film. It’s the kind of film that will find takers in multiplexes today. The time is right to come out with such films because there are exhibition avenues for them now.”
So, Will Percept and Nagesh team up again? “He’s a friend and he is in a good space right now. I haven’t met him for two or three months but I’d be extremely happy to work with him once again,” said Shailendra.
