In her next film, Guddu Rangeela, Aditi Rao Hydari will be playing the role of deaf and mute girl. The actress who has so far played glamorous roles reveals why she took up the part, “It is a fabulous part. I got out of the office after the narration and jumped. I think I startled the guard outside.”

She continues, “I don’t think of it as a challenging role. I love starting a new film, a new character, and a new journey... I think about what I have to do and get to it, plus there is a huge advantage when you’re working with a good director and you have talented actors as co-stars!”

The actress had a teacher to help her grab the nuances of playing the role. “The director (Subhash Kapoor) and his team got me a teacher. I took classes to learn sign language. The toughest thing about playing such a role is that you have to curb your natural instincts to respond to sound! The simple sound like a door opening makes you turn and look, you have to just block out everything. What you see is the only thing you respond to.”

She concludes, “I didn’t carry the character home with me. I pretty much switch on and off. But I understand the core of a role and respond from there.”
