MUMBAI MIRROR (March 20, 2014)

Rhea Chakraborty who made her debut last year with Mere Dad Ki Maruti has filed a complaint in Khar police station, accusing an unnamed man of groping her in her apartment complex’s elevator.

The incident happened on Tuesday and the former VJ then took to Twitter, writing, “I just got groped by a very well dressed man who casually walks into my building in broad daylight, with 2 watchmen chilling in the building (sic).”

Speaking about the incident, DCP Mahesh Patil, spokesperson of Mumbai Police, said, "On 18.3.14, at about 17.40 hours, Rhea Indrajit Chakravorty, aged 21, entered her building’s lift when an unknown person, who was using the staircase, suddenly entered the lift and tried to talk to the lady. Sensing trouble, she kicked the person out of the lift, who then fled. Since she was frightened by the incident she called the police station. Necessary assistance was provided and N.C.(non cognizable) complaint was registered."

Meanwhile, Rhea too issued a statement, saying, “I would like to thank everyone for their support and encouraging words. I tweeted about this unfortunate incident to highlight the dismal reality and ask all women to be more aware. The police are doing their job and I am confident they will get to the bottom of this matter.”

VJ-turned-film actress Rhea Chakraborty was caught unawares by an unidentified man, who followed and groped her on the ground floor of her building on Tuesday evening.

Rattled by the incident, Rhea lodged a non- cognisable (NC) complaint at the Khar police station, which, incidentally, is just about 150 metres from her residence. “I got out of my car at around 5.30pm and was walking towards my building when a man started following me. I let him walk ahead and he hid near the staircase. I walked into the elevator and as it was about to close, this man yanked it open and forced himself on me,” recalled Rhea.

Not one to pull her punches, the young actress kicked him on the stomach and the man fell out of the elevator. “I started screaming and was about to grab his throat when he took to his heels. Then I filed an NC complaint. It was a scary episode,” she added.

Asked if the man was frequent visitor to the building, Rhea said she didn’t know. She has been asked to identify the man through pictures captured on a CCTV camera outside her building. “The cops assume he is a stalker. I remember something similar had happened to Shruti Hassan a few months ago. If such a thing can happen so close to the police station, it can happen anywhere and with anyone,” said Rhea.

Filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani came out in support of Rhea. He wrote this on a social networking site: “Shockdhurt 2 hr of my frnd being groped in her buildng....”
