Vartak Nagar — A Story Of Four Crows, which stars Jimmy Sheirgill and Raghu Ram, is headed to the Cannes and Venice film festivals. Set during the great Bombay mill strike and the gangster era of the eighties, it has been directed by Bollywood debutant Atul Taishete and is jointly produced by Kunal Kohli Productions, Adarsh Telemedia and Dione Entertainment. The film interweaves a plot surrounding friendship, betrayal and redemption between four school-going friends.

Atul, who met Kunal at a festival in Germany, previously directed Rewind — touted as the world’s first true reverse film, which the latter requested to see. Says Atul, “When Kunal asked me to send him the DVD of my film, I wondered what possible connect I could have with him. I did not send the DVD to him for almost a year. But when I finally did, he called up immediately and to ask if I had a script that he could produce.”

Says Kunal, who believes that this film has what it takes to do well in the international festival circuit, “Since I have mostly made romantic films, I do have this image… but I am very interested in producing films across genres. I was completely blown by the scale and the magnitude of this script. It has immense box office potential in India and is yet very international in context and story.”
