THE TIMES OF INDIA (March 30, 2014)
As reported by TOI on March 21, a mother-daughter duo, Dr Geneve de Sa (50) and her mother Dr Pamela (87) were among the five of the 23 members who opposed Khan’s proposal. On Friday, Khan wrote to the society, stating he was no longer interested in the property because of the controversy.
“In light of the objections raised by some members of the society to my offer and taking cognizance of the fact that untrue allegations about me are floated by certain members of the society, I would like to withdraw my offer. I hope it puts an end to allegations about me pressuring members to sell out and displacing them so that I could build my mansion. I wish the society and its members a good and happy life,” Khan said in a letter to the society.
Khan owns three flats in the society and had made an offer to redevelop the two buildings on its premises. He planned to build a 20,000-sq ft bungalow for himself on part of the land. The de Sas had alleged that the actor wanted to buy out the members. The society had denied the allegation that it was ramming through the actor’s proposal. Khan had offered Rs 70,000 per sq ft for those who wanted to move out. Members who did not wish to leave were offered a new flat in the redeveloped property.
Khan’s withdrawal puts an end to the controversy. He has been searching for a bungalow property for the past several years in the Bandra-Khar area with a budget of Rs 200 crore.
