WOULD SHAADI KE SIDE EFFECTS CREATE THE MAGIC OF ITS PREDECESSOR?

Saket Chaudhary made one of the most amazing directorial debuts with the quirky Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), a film that was loved for its novel approach. While one expected Saket to be inundated with offers and that he’ll sign his next immediately, that didn’t happen. His next, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, releases tomorrow, almost 7 ½ years after the release of Pyaar Ke Side Effects.

While Pyaar Ke Side Effects dealt with the issues of being in a relationship, Shaadi Ke Side Effects explores the problems a couple goes through post-marriage. The film stars Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan and both seem to have done a great job. Farhan especially has raised lot of laughs with his one-liners, as evident from the promo. The theatrical trailer is hilarious and more or less has been loved by one and all. Songs however haven’t caught on though Vyaah Karke Pachtaya got thumbs up, especially for its video. Ram Kapoor, Vir Das, Gautami Kapoor, Purab Kohli, Ila Arun and Rati Agnihotri complete the rest of the cast.

What goes against Shaadi Ke Side Effects is its urbane feel that might restrict its business in small towns and mass belts. The recent releases – Highway and Hasee Toh Phasee – also faced the same predicament. But then Shaadi Ke Side Effects has the presence of Farhan and Vidya and this factor might help the film to do a better business than the aforementioned films. Nevertheless opening would be moderate but if response is positive, the film can grow big time.
