DHOOM 3 has finished its run now and has set new lifetime records in every major circuit across the world apart from the biggest of them all Mumbai.

The nett collections of DHOOM 3 in Mumbai are less than 3 IDIOTS by around 2.50 crore though the distributor share for DHOOM 3 is more. This has a lot to do with stagnation in the growth of Mumbai circuit and traditionally action films fare better in North whereas comedy/drams do better in Mumbai.

Prior to HUM AAPKE HAI KOUN in 1994, Mumbai was around 25% bigger than Delhi/UP on general but then tickets got higher and Mumbai circuit had the most big cities where these higher ticket rates were possible. The multiplex revolution started and again Mumbai circuit was the one to have the most multiplex development making it double of Delhi/UP towards the end of the last decade.

The digital revolution was also fastest in Mumbai over the 2006-2010 period. Over the last few years there has been stagnation as when a new multiplex comes up in Mumbai, Thane, Ahmedabd or Pune it does not really add to business but takes away business from another multiplex nearby. And its a different story in Delhi/UP, East Punjab or Rajasthan as these circuits have shown growth over the last few years especially East Punjab and Rajasthan.
